Islandlawyers’ Gavin Doi talking about prenuptial agreements to the Financial Planning Association of Hawai’i

In January 2026, attorney Gavin Doi of Doi/Luke, Attorneys at Law had the opportunity to speak before the Financial Planning Association of Hawaiʻi regarding prenuptial agreements and their role in long-term financial planning.

The presentation focused on how prenuptial agreements can help couples create greater financial clarity, predictability, and protection before marriage — particularly when significant assets, family property, businesses, inheritances, or children from prior relationships are involved.

Financial planning and family law are often closely connected. Major life transitions such as marriage, divorce, and remarriage can significantly affect:

  • asset protection,
  • estate planning,
  • retirement planning,
  • business ownership,
  • and long-term family financial goals.

During the discussion, Gavin addressed common misconceptions about prenups and explained how modern Hawaiʻi prenuptial agreements are frequently used as proactive planning tools rather than simply “divorce documents.”

Doi/Luke appreciates the opportunity to speak with Hawaiʻi financial professionals and participate in discussions involving the intersection of family law and financial planning. Mahalo to the Financial Planning Association of Hawaiʻi for hosting the event and facilitating an informative conversation.
