Gavin Doi is a founding partner at Doi/Luke, where he combines his deep-rooted passion for family law with a commitment to justice and community service. Born and reared in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, Gavin graduated from McKinley High School before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. He later earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver College of Law, equipping him with the legal expertise to advocate in the family law field.

With a background that includes working with the Child Support Enforcement Agency and the AmeriCorps Domestic Violence Clinic, as well as interning with the late U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye, Gavin has dedicated his career to helping others. His commitment to pro bono work shines through his volunteer efforts with Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii and the Hawai’i State Bar Association, where he strives to make legal assistance accessible to all.

Gavin K. Doi has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for 2020.

In 2013, Gavin co-authored the book Child Custody Litigation and Settlements (Aspatore Books/Thomson West), contributing his insight in navigating child custody cases. His professional affiliations include membership in the Hawaii State Bar Association, the HSBA Family Law Section, and the American Bar Association. Gavin’s dedication to the legal profession has not gone unnoticed; he was honored with the 2002 Justice Award by the Hawaii State Bar Association and recognized by the Hawaii Access to Justice Commission in 2012 for his service to the community.

Gavin’s extensive experience encompasses divorce, paternity, child custody, child support, premarital and postmarital agreements, and restraining orders. He has been recognized by his fellow lawyers, being named in The Best Lawyers in America (2020-2025) and SuperLawyers (2023-2025), and Honolulu Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Hawaii (2020-2025). With a “Distinguished” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a rating of 10 out of 10 on Avvo, and membership in the Hawaii State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, Gavin is a trusted advocate in family law.
