Divorce, Brought to You by the Letter “D”

Sesame Street Takes on Divorce

Parents who are splitting up, it’s time to tune into the Muppets:  Sesame Street is tackling divorce.  Apparently this is a topic that the Children’s Television Workshop tried to address 20 years ago, going so far as  writing and shooting an episode in the 90’s, only to find that it was very upsetting to preschoolers.   Now the Sesame Street crew has made another attempt at addressing the issue with young children.  Sadly, this piece will not air on TV, but will be available online and as part of a multimedia packet, “Little Children, Big Challenges:  Divorce.”

Interesting to see such a thought-out, cautious approach to discussing a sensitive topic, in a time when children can easily access some pretty dicey material on TV.   Sesame Street should be lauded for such.
